STEM PROP LISTING

We have created every Phalaenopsis and Doritaenopsis stem-prop orchid listed in our own laboratory. Orchid photographs will be added as flowers bloom. Many others describe some of the props I offer as red Phalaenopsis, while actually they are a shade of burgundy. I am describing flower colors as accurately as I can. There is a difference in stem props and clones. Clones are mass produced plants that can show mutations that differ from the original parent. Orchid stem propagation lends itself to one exact duplicate of each node on a Phalaenopsis flower spike. They are not mass produced and they are considered to be the mother plant. Very seldom one of the Phalaenopsis nodes will produce more than one plant and these plantlets are considered multiprops. It is uncommon to see more than five plantlets from one Phalaenopsis node. These plantlets are still not considered clones.

Phal Dawn Treader 'Brenda Gay' HCC/AOS

This stem was shared with me by Dorcus Brogdon . It is named fondly for her daughter 'Brenda Gay'. Two props available only. Bloom Size. This will be a very valuable plant in any multifloral breeding program. This photo was taken by Don Osborne, Judge Emeritus, while the orchid was displayed in Charlotte, NC 2/22/2002. I have never offered the plant previously. Award description follows: Thirty-two flowers and 18 buds on two multi-branched inflorescences; flowers creamy white; dorsal sepal and petals blushed and centrally spotted rose; lateral sepals creamy yellow, interior spotted deep purple; lip old gold, midlobe spotted deep purple; substance fleshy; texture matte.

Dtps. Taida Little Pixie 'Seagrove's Crystal Queen' AM/AOS

This is the photo of a few of the cut flowers left over when I was in the process of stem propping this orchid. It was awarded in Asheville, NC at the Western North Carolina Orchid Society show and sale, March 2007. This plant was a showstopper. Award description follows: Seventy-eight flowers and six buds on three branched inflorescences; sepals and petals amethyst with white picotee, veined darker amethyst; lip dark amethyst, keels bright yellow, minutely spotted amethyst; anther cap white; substance firm; texture crystalline. I have not tried this orchid in any hybrids, so cannot report on it's hybridizing ability. I can however report on it's bloom ability-very good.

Bloom Size $85.00

Phal Elfin King 'Seagrove Orchids' AM/AOS

A mulitfloral giant that breeds well and grows very nicely. Flowers are bright magenta with a definite bright white picotee around the petals. Centrally the flower is a dark black raspberry. Branching inflorescences and the number of flowers this orchid can produce make a very impressive show plant. One one available. Awarded in 2001 and this is the only one I have ever offered for sale. Award description follows:--Nine flowers and two buds on one 56-cm inflorescence; sepals and petals white basally with purple overlay, darker purple venation and white margins; lip and side lobes beet purple, crest yellow with wine spots; substance heavy; texture glistening.

Bloom Size $125.00

Phal Taisuco Valenty 'Seagrove's Party Dress'

This was a total pleasant surprise as a first bloom orchid seedling. One of my favorite Modern Beauty hybrids of all time. I have kept this orchid over the years and have never had the opportunity to present it to a judging team. This orchid is award quality. Beautiful soft blush center. Wonderful arching inflorescences. One of my personal favorites. I am sorry to report no photo available.

Bloom Size $80.00

Phal Carolina Bronze Meteor 'Lenette' HCC/AOS

A unique and worth having Phal Golden Peoker progeny. Award description follows: Ten flowers and one bud on two inflorescences; sepals and petals deep butter yellow, heavily overlaid with rust spots; sepals more heavily saturated basally; lip rust, overlaid with rose; anther cap white; substance firm; texture waxy. Phal Linda Thorne 'Seagrove's 3D' HCC/AOS

When this fellow got awarded it had three rows of perfectly arranged flowers down the stem. It has many multifloral parents in the background and should be a wonderful parent for multifloral breeding. (Phal Hawaiian Gem X Be Culiacan) My friend Roger Cole made this cross and is know best for his minicat breeding but has tried a hand at several Phal crosses. This is one of his first and Phal Linda Thorne already has a few awards. Flowers are white with yellow in the lip.
